In response to an earlier column, reader “scdaddyo” (FedEx supporters rarely, if ever, use their real names) wrote:
“FedEx Express is the largest Airline in the world. . . . UPS is the largest trucking company in the world.”
On Tuesday, June 9, 2009, the Washington Times published an editorial headlined “Kneecapping FedEx.” In it, the paper complained about an amendment to federal legislation which would place FedEx Express’s ground drivers under the same federal labor law as all of its express delivery competitors.

Conservatives continue to find themselves split in the fight between FedEx and UPS over a bill to place FedEx Express drivers under the same law as every other package delivery driver. And many who are on the FedEx side are there simply because FedEx is non-union and, hey, conservatives don’t like unions, right?

Wet-Nursing FedEx

In a recent editorial (“Kneecapping FedEx” – June 9, 2009) the Washington Times maintains that an amendment being proposed by Rep. James Oberstar to the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill would “hobble” FedEx Express by “completely changing the labor laws under which the company operates.” Which is true. However, what the Times failed to mention is that such a change is absolutely reasonable and appropriate.

Folks claiming that talk-show host Rush Limbaugh speaks for conservatives are off the mark. Rush speaks to conservatives, not for them. And he speaks to them in their own language, which is why he has such a gigantic listening audience. And because he has such a gigantic listening audience of conservatives, it is especially important for other conservatives to step forward and set the record straight on those rare occasions when Rush gets one wrong.
